A short Ben’s Bites note tracking OpenAI’s revenue trajectory. Cited in chatgpt-pmf mainly for the velocity of the revenue ramp:

OpenAI is currently on pace to generate more than $1 billion in revenue. Compared to its average monthly revenue last year, OpenAI is making 35 times more today ($80M/month). OpenAI generated just $28 million in revenue last year.

A 35x year-over-year revenue jump is the financial fingerprint of explosive PMF. The number itself is now ancient (revenue has since climbed past $4B), but the shape of that ramp is the part worth remembering.

Why it matters here

This is what Andreessen meant when he wrote “money from customers is piling up in your company checking account” (only-thing-that-matters). It’s the lagging indicator of the PMF that the Sean Ellis test is designed to catch earlier. By the time the revenue is showing up like this, the PMF is months old.
